Over the last several months I found myself getting too wrapped up in some major changes at work. I would let the assumptions crawl in and before long I was really struggling with too many things in life. I think it’s crazy that our minds can lead us to places we could only ever dream of or lead us into despair. Our mind is such a powerful tool, but we must be careful that we don’t let it take us places we should not be. When we over think, make assumptions, don’t think we are doing our best or start having negative thoughts about ourselves or life, we tend to fall into a depressive state.

For me I can recognize that I am heading in the wrong direction and if I focus and get myself out my own negative thoughts, I can correct my path.
I had some perfect timing to help clear my mind and get me back into a healthy mindset. I was able to spend the better part of a week in Cancun, with some of my family. The sun, beach and water were such a great reset. Spending time with family doing some things we had never done; just really helps get your priorities right. Life is not just work and stress, our life is family, enjoyment, health, and happiness.
Having a positive mindset is critical to maintaining our health. I find that when I am not in a good mindset, I then lose focus on myself and my health. But how do we help keep our mind is shape? I find that reading and working on myself is one of the best things for me. While on my trip, I started reading The Mastery of Life by Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. This is from the family that wrote the Four Agreements. One of the Four Agreements is to not make assumptions. Making assumptions just gets our mind going to things that will probably never happen. These assumptions get in our head and starts us thinking bad things could happen, that no one likes us, or that we are not good enough. This goes completely against the positive thoughts we should be having. Making assumptions has always been a problem in my life, but when I focus on not making assumptions, most of the time all the stress I was dealing with just goes away.
Finding time to clear your mind, having a reset, and getting some well-deserved relaxation can be such a great practice to do several times a year. It doesn’t have to be an expensive trip, a hike in the mountains, going to a lake or beach can do wonders. If we want to be healthy, we need to also work on our mind. It is a very important step in our overall wellbeing.
Some other forms of clearing our minds can be with practices like yoga and meditation. I think these forms can be so good for us. I have been doing yoga several times a week, even while I was in Mexico. Combining some stretching along with breathing and light meditation really helps refresh your body and your mind. My wife is currently starting a yoga training class and I hope to learn from her as she goes through the class.
Find your way to clear your mind and get your mind in a healthy state, you will be amazed at how refreshing it can be.
So much truth!!!
