Sunday mornings at my house is usually a late breakfast, of some sort of eggs and then a long soak in the hot tub. I really love the relaxation that it brings to my Sunday day of relaxing. As I am aging, I have really enjoyed my hot tub, use it 3-4 times a week. I have found that it helps my back, my aching muscles and I also feel like it is helping my circulation. So don’t take my word on this, do some research and see how a hot tub may benefit you.
I did some research and this is what I found.
Why does sitting in a hot pool of water feel so good? Well it relieves stress and gets our muscles to relax. This leads to so many additional benefits, like calming our nervous system down, lowering our blood pressure and relieving aching muscles. So just getting our body to relax can bring so many great benefits and we all should be doing this as we age. We live in a stressful time and finding ways to relax is a great help to our overall health.
One thing that can be beneficial or dangerous, depending whether you have any heart conditions. Researchers have found that the hot water speeds our heart up, so it can be like light exercising. But if you have a heart conditions you definatley need to talk with your doctor. Also if you have low blood pressure be cautious, the heat can lower our blood pressure.
One thing that I didn’t know was the sleep benefits, I just thought you sleep better if you are relaxed. But what I found is that our bodies naturally heat up and then cool down prior to bed, this triggers the mind that it is time for sleep. Well getting our bodies heated up from the hot tub and then cooling down does the same thing and tells us to relax. This is probably why Sunday afternoons seem so relaxed and I sometimes I take a nap, again some great benefits.
I currently have a Bullfrog Spa and love it. I have heard people say how hard spas are to maintain and I have had no issues. If you keep it clean and do your weekly, monthly maintenance you should not have any issues. I use to service swimming pools and hot tubs when I was younger and I found that consistency was the key to keeping things clean. When the water gets out of balance it can be hard to get it back, so much better to stay on top of it.
One last thing I want to point out, that is my key to relaxing. I leave my phone in the house and just enjoy being outside and having no distractions. I watch the birds in the trees, the clouds passing by and just let my mind wander. I find this a great mental reset.
I would suggest a spa to anyone that has a place to put one and can afford it. It is an investment that can bring years of relaxation if taken care of properly.
Enjoy your relaxation!
